Main Church of Tlalpujahua

Santuario de Nuestra Señora del Carmen

Explore the downtown streets and discover this stately church that presides over the town.

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Carmen, also known as the Parish Church of Saint Paul and Saint Peter, is the town’s star building—its 18th-century baroque facade is ornamented with saints and fantastical figures. The interior was adorned with pastel hues between 1901 and 1905 by local artisan Joaquín Orta Menchaca. The nighttime light show is the best time to truly appreciate its beauty.

While you’re here, roam the Historic Center’s pleasant, welcoming streets. We recommend stopping by the Plaza Mayor, flanked by the Town Hall and the arcade, as well as the Jardín Zaragoza square with its lovely octagonal gazebo.
