La Cueva de las Monas Cave & Archeological Site

Within the municipality of Chihuahua but to the north of the city, is tucked this cave and archeological site. It features cave paintings with human figures. The cave was reported during the second half of the 1980s, when the first studies about the cultural history of the site’s components were carried out. 

In the 1990s, due to the increasing number of visiting tourists, the site was cleaned up, railings and placards were installed, and trails were created. The cave’s walls carry figures, shapes, and colors that make it a representative but unique example of the cave paintings not only in the state of Chihuahua but throughout northern Mexico.
