Old Town

The Old Town is highly esteemed by the people who live in the Magical Town of Tonatico. Here, you’ll find the architectural remains of the first church which held the image of Nuestra Señora de Tonatico. Our Lady of Tonatico is greatly celebrated and is at the heart of the region’s biggest cultural legend.

The story goes that the first church caught fire. Its roof and a large part of the structure were reduced to ashes, yet the image of the virgin was untarnished. It was found outside the church looking toward the heavens, when her gaze had previously been directed downward.
