The word Nayarit comes from a king of the Cora people called Nayar. Nayarit means “son of God in the sky and the sun”. The state’s territory is located in the Sierra Madre Occidental, the Coastal Plains of the Pacific, the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt and the Sierra Madre del Sur.
