Starting with the biggest plaza, Vasco de Quiroga square is in the middle of colonial-era mansions lined by long colonnades. The center of the square holds a fountain with a statue of the bishop it is named for. Another option is Gertrudis Bocanegra, a smaller but equally pleasant plaza. And there is also Plazuela de San Francisco, where several churches sit on the edge of a small square. All of these plazas are home to food stands and Pátzcuaro’s famous caramelized milk ice cream, better known as nieve de pasta.
