Handicrafts from the entire state are brought together here under one roof, inside Casa Chiapas (Instituto Casa de las Artesanías de Chiapas). This store collects the incredible handmade creations of the people of Chiapas, who use the resources they find in their environments or those dictated by tradition.
An enormous collection of huipiles (embroidered blouses), for example, demonstrates the different spins and weaves their creators from various communities in Chiapas use.
The lacquer objects from Chiapa de Corzo, the amber jewelry from Simojovel or the wooden toys from San Cristóbal de las Casas can all be found here. You can also find the clay jaguars from Amatenango del Valle, the guitars from Oxchuc, and the baskets from La Trinitaria. Not to mention the products from Soconusco: coffee and chocolate, jams, honey and cashew nuts.
