From Silver Peaks to Golden Tides
Because Guerrero brings together sea, history, and character in a way few places do. Each season offers something distinct: calm winter beaches, energetic summer rhythms, and a strong culinary presence year-round. It is a destination for travelers seeking coastline with identity, vivid landscapes, and an authentic connection to the Pacific.
The Signature Experience
A cultural festival in Taxco honoring the playwright Juan Ruiz de Alarcon, filling the streets with theater and music.
Community celebrations tied to the coming rains, celebrated with music, dance, and agricultural rituals across coastal towns.
A living tradition that defines the city’s relationship with the sea and spectacle.
Guerrero has a warm climate for most of the year, with average temperatures between 24 and 32°C (75–90°F). Rainfall is concentrated in summer, while the rest of the year offers favorable conditions for outdoor activities.
Ideal conditions for beach time and boating year-round: warm Pacific waters, consistent sunshine, and stable temperatures make Guerrero a reliable destination in every season.
Airports: Acapulco (ACA) and Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo (ZIH) are major international hubs.
Local Transportation
Taxis (The VW Beetle): The primary way to get around towns. In Taxco, taxis are usually white VW Beetles (Vochos), which are the only cars capable of navigating the steep, narrow cobblestone streets. It is an attraction in itself! In Acapulco, the blue-and-white VW Beetles are also iconic.
Estrella de Oro / Costa Line Buses: These are the main first-class bus lines. They offer comfortable, air-conditioned service connecting Acapulco, Zihuatanejo, Taxco, and Mexico City (Taxqueña terminal).
LIVING HERITAGE – Cultural & Sensory Section
The Mask and the Jaguar. Guerrero’s deep traditions are visible in its dramatic dances, such as the “Tecuani” (Jaguar) dance, which blends pre-Hispanic mythology with colonial storytelling. In Taxco, the heritage is carved in silver, a tradition revived by William Spratling that transformed the town into a world-class design hub.
Guerrero’s cuisine is robust, spicy, and heavily influenced by the sea and the mountains. It features a unique "surf and turf" blend where fresh seafood meets the hearty stews of the sierra.
The state’s signature dish. A rich hominy stew made with a green sauce of pumpkin seeds (pepita), tomatillos, and green chiles. Uniquely, it is often served with sardines, chicharrón, avocado, and mezcal on the side.
A whole fish (usually snapper) butterflied and grilled over wood coals. One side is typically slathered in a mild green chile sauce, the other in a spicy red adobo. Iconic to the coast of Acapulco (Barra Vieja).
A coastal Sunday tradition. Roast pork stuffed with potatoes, carrots, fruits, and spices, served inside a wood-fired bolillo roll bathed in its own juices (cuche).
In Chilpancingo and Taxco, these are small, fried tortilla "boats" topped with shredded meat, salsa, and cheese.
While Oaxaca is famous for mezcal, Guerrero produces exceptional, wild agave mezcals (often from the Cupreata agave) that are smoky and complex.
