San Luis Potosí’s Historic Center
This City of Light’s downtown is home to beautiful mansions, churches, museums, shops, and restaurants. A stroll through its streets reveals striking structures, many of which are in neoclassical and churrigueresque styles. The first spot you should visit is Plaza Fundadores, site of the Cathedral and the church of San Francisco in San Francisco park.
While there, stop by Capilla de Loreto chapel, the Casa de la Virreina mansion where the wife of don Félix María Calleja lived, and Templo del Carmen, a church with a churrigueresque facade and an alcove dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Another noteworthy building is the Teatro de la Paz, a theater set in part of the Convento del Carmen, an example of neoclassical style with a pink limestone front.
