Town of Santa María del Río

Just 30 miles from the city, the archway over the federal road that marks the entrance into the town declares: “Santa María del Rio, birthplace of the rebozo shawl.” And for good reason! This is where, since pre-Hispanic times, the finest, most beautiful rebozos have been woven. Cotton shawls and fringed ones are specialties. We recommend taking time to visit this Magical Town.
